Psychometric Tests

Psychometric tests aim to measure attributes such as intelligence, aptitude and personality. Where interviews can be faked and references are not so reliable, psychometric testing gives employers some objective information by which they can compare candidates.

Occupational Personality Questionnaires

Occupational personality questionnaires provide potential employers with insight into how you might cope with stress or how well you work with other people. They also may ‘map’ how your skills and traits fit against their organisation, and by comparing your test profile with those of their "ideal" employee. For example an organisation with a very relaxed and informal working environment may not suit a worker who values discipline and order.

Aptitude Tests

Aptitude tests (such as numerical or verbal) may be used at the very start of the application process to reduce large numbers of applicants. This is often the case for graduate programs where anyone below a pre-established score does not proceed to the next round. Or they may be used prior to an interview to help the interviewer design questions to probe issues specific to the individual. Psychometric tests often take place alongside a range of other assessment centre activities.
